History of Mumbai-

  • Mumbai became an important trading town during the period of Mughals with its connection to Mecca and Basra.

  • Recently Mumbai has faced several communal riots since 1990 and has been victim of many terrorist attacks including multiple bombing attacks of 1993 and horrifying 26/11.

  • People- As per 2011 census, the population of Mumbai is 1.84Crores. The locals are Hindu’s followed by Muslims and Christians. Mumbai has a metropolitan culture.
  • Languages- Marathi is the main language of Mumbai. Hindi and English are also commonly used by the locals.
  • Festivals- Ganesh Chaturthi and Diwali are celebrated with great pomp. The 10-day Ganesh festival is the highlight of the city with huge idols of Ganesh with colourfully decorated pandals.
